K-9 Frequently Asked Questions

We would like to take a moment to help explain the answers to some K-9 frequently asked questions regarding K-9′s and bed bugs.

Question:

What is the advantage to having a K-9 inspection Vs. a visual inspection?

Answer:

Accuracy and speed, K-9′s can find as little as one bed bug in a unit within a few minutes.  Where if you visually attempted to find that “1″ bug in a unit it could take hours, if you ever do find it.  The second major advantage to using a K-9 is there is no need to take apart beds, most furniture can be left in place, etc.

Question:

How do I know that when the dog indicates there is actually activity?

Answer:

The dogs are utilized and trained daily to ensure accuracy. The training/trainer simulates actual situations to ensure the dogs accuracy.  This includes activity in couches, beds, walls, etc. The second thing we do is we attempt to visually verify all hits.  If the hit can be visually verified it is considered an active unit/room.  If the hit cannot be visually verified, a second dog is brought through the room or unit if the dog hits in the same location, it is considered to be an active unit.

Question:

What can I do to reduce the risk of a Bed Bug infestation in my building?

Answer:

The biggest thing you can do to minimize an infestation in your property is education and early identification.  Education: Go Bug Free offers training courses for building employees as well as the residents.  Bed Bugs have become a part of our lives these days.  It is vital to learn how to reduce the risk of getting Bed Bugs while going about your normal life. Early Identification: We recommend that properties get K-9 inspections of their buildings at least quarterly.  By getting frequent inspections this will allow you to catch any problems early before they become a big problem or a building-wide problem.

Question:

What is the advantage to having Go Bug Free prepare the units for treatment rather than have the residents do this work?

Answer:

By having Go Bug Free or another contractor prep the units you can ensure the work is completed properly.  Some residents may just do enough work to make it look prepared.  An improperly prepared unit can cause the unit to be re-infested as soon as the treatment crew walks out and the laundry bags are opened.
